I was wondering how a 17 year old highschool student can get involved volunteering in local politics? I would love to volunteer, but i have no idea where to start.

It’s easy! especially because this is an election year. All you need to do is figure out what kind of candidate you want to volunteer for (party alignment, issue stances, etc.), figure out what position you’d like to volunteer for (do you want to help a candidate for county assessor? state rep? mayor? you get the point), and then fire up the google to find out who’s running for what in your area (for instance, if you wanted to volunteer for a state rep candidate and you live in Indiana’s 23rd district, google “indiana 23rd district state rep candidate”). Most candidates will have a website and EVERY website will have a place to click if you want to volunteer. Campaigns live and die by volunteers, so trust me, they are looking.

I would suggest reading the free ebook “Why Your City Council Makes Dumb Decisions and What You Can Do About It.” It can be found at http://www.AcademyOfLocalPolitics.Com. Totally free. Really.

Then start attending city council, and committee meetings. Let the Mayor know of your interest in being appointed as a citizen to a committee. Learn by doing. Volunteer opportunities will appear the more meetings you attend.

    Good Luck!
