There is a Charity shop near me and the managerss has convictions for importing heroin, shoplifting, prostitution. I try not to judge but since she started she has bought her own house , changed all her furnishings, doors, new kitchen etc.Only a couple of months ago she paid for 5 family members to go to Croatia. She pays cash for everything
I’m reluctant to donate now. Would you ?
Would You Donate To A Charity Shop If You Knew The Person Managing It Was A Convicted Thief?

I would find another place to give my money or household good to. It sounds like she may be skimming off the business.
Why don’t you donate money directly to the charity? And give your belongings to another charity shop…? There must bemore than one nearby?
absolutely not. I’d hate to leave my beleongings with anyone convicted of any felony!
Sounds like she got a second chance and took it by turning her life around. I don’t see a problem. Other criminals should be so smart.
nope the person is still bad how do you think the person got all the new stuff was it from doing charity???????i think not
i would not donate a thing !
That does look bad, have you met the people that run this shop? Is the conviction thing gossip or fact? There are just lots of questions to ask yourself and then just go with your gut instinct! Like the other answers have said, there are plenty of ‘legit’ charities to give do, just research/ask questions then decide who and what to give to! At least you are considering it, which is great!
I probably wouldn’t, not being judgemental but to many whammies hitting me saying NO!!!!!
In view of what you say, I would not either. Fortunately, there are many possibilities to donate to charity without running the risk of being bribed.
For instance the Red Cross, Doctors without frontiers, Charitas, etc.

You should check with the local community service body in your country to see if this charity shop has really been registered and I’m sure the manageress would not mind the inspectors checking in on her books if she is genuine.
I know that it sounds terrible, but won’t it be worse if other innocent people from your neighbourhood were to donate regularly, and then later find out that it is a fraud?
Given the situation you describe, I would offer the story to the Department of Homeland Security.
